Advanced SPinal Innovations with Robotics and Enabling technology

The Advanced SPinal Innovations with Robotics and Enabling technology (ASPIRE) Registry was created in 2021 for an alliance of pediatric orthopedic spine surgeons to investigate the impact of Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved enabling technologies in pediatric spine deformity surgery. These technologies include robotics coupled with navigation and patient-specific rods, which aim to improve the safety and accuracy of pedicle screw placement andoverall efficiency of these procedures.

ASPIRE is led by Boston Children’s Hospital and is comprised of nine participating institutions across the country collecting critical data to assess in real time the risks and benefits associated with these technologies.The lead investigators believe that after the initial learning curve, robotic-assisted pedicle screw placement with navigation in children is more precise, accurate, and reliable than other techniques for screw placement. Determining the safety and effectiveness of this combination of technologies will enable informed implementation of these strategies. ASPIRE is continuously expanding to more leading pediatric spine deformity centers as this technology becomes widely implemented.
